Dick Tracy Comics

In coordination with Whodunit week here, Retroactive presents a quick glimpse into the world of Dick Tracy. You saw him in action in "Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome," but his humble beginnings started in the world of comics, where he battled infamous villains and used unique gadgetry to solve the tough street crimes of Chicago.

Originally debuting on October 4th, 1931 in the Detroit Mirror, the Dick Tracy comic strip was created by Chester Gould who continued to draw the strip until 1977. The first Dicky Tracy comic book was produced in 1947.

To this day, Dick Tracy remains one of the most iconic detectives in American history.

Side note: We dealt with some technical issues this week, the video starts two minutes into the program and the original radio series (Jack Diamond Private Eye) could not be embedded, but enjoy Crime Doctor!
